Anonymous metropolitan bishop of Chonai, 11th century. Seal (Lead, 29 mm, 13.19 g, 12 h). M[I-XA] Nimbate facing bust of St. Michael, holding trefoil scepter in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left. Rev. ΧⲰΝⲰΝ / RΛЄΠⲰΝ CΦΡΑΓ,ΜΑ / ΦЄVΓЄ / ΠΑC ΔΟ/Λ, ("All deceit flees, seeing the sealing of Chonai") in six lines, decorations above and flanking the last line. Cf. Zacos II 575 and Cheynet, Tatiş 6.13 (same reverse legend, but a standing Michael on the obverse). Numerous scrapes and scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
